India’s Daily Covid-19 Cases Surge by 13% with Over 6,000 New Infections

India reported 6,050 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, marking a 13% increase from the previous day’s count of 5,335 infections. According to the health ministry, the number of active cases has risen to 28,303. Additionally, 14 more people died due to the virus, bringing the death toll to 5,30,943, while 4,41,85,858 individuals have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus.

The nationwide vaccination drive has administered 2,334 doses in the last 24 hours, and a total of 2,20,66,20,700 inoculations have been carried out since its launch on January 16, 2021.

Maharashtra reported 803 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, an increase of 234 from the previous day. Mumbai accounted for 216 cases and one fatality related to the virus, while Thane city and Jalna district accounted for the other two Covid-19 related deaths in the state.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 606 new Covid-19 cases, the highest number since August last year, with one Covid-positive person’s death reported in the city, but the cause of death was incidental. The highest number of cases recorded in Delhi was 620 on August 26.
